Connecting With Your Congregation
March 19, 2020
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)1
Across the country, religious services are being canceled and ‘social distancing’ is becoming the new normal. More than ever, it’s vital to stay connected to your congregation. It’s time to think about the best way to continue to pray with, and for, the people in your community.
While churches traditionally bring people together in a building, technology has created new options for outreach. We’ve put togethet just a few ways your church can utilize technology to increase communications:
Text Messaging: Not only can you text one-on-one, but services like GroupMe also offer a great way to stay connected to a large group via group text.
E-Mail: Have you thought about e-mailing devotions to your congregation? Parents and children alike would appreciate children’s devotions and activities.
Social Media: You can post communications, share information and news updates via Instagram, Facebook Live, YouTube, etc,
Video Calls: Small groups can’t meet? Set up a conference call and invite participants. We found this article about the best free video conferencing software. Anything to keep a sense of normalcy!
Website: Your website is the perfect vehicle to stay connected and expand your reach. In addition to posting important information, and daily videos you can stream your worship services. If you have questions about which licenses are needed to get started check out a blog post we did on just that.
It’s also important to keep in mind those that lack access to technology. It might not be a bad idea to bring back the phone tree and have people check in regularly.
