Copyright’s Contributions to the U.S. Economy in 2017

CHELSEA HACK: Last Thursday, December 6, the International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA) released its latest report, Copyright Industries in the U.S. Economy: the 2018 Report, detailing the economic impact of the core copyright industries in 2017. The report defines the “core copyright industries” as “those whose primary purpose is to create, produce, distribute, or exhibit copyright materials” (i.e. industries ranging from newspapers to movies). Overall, the report indicates that these industries add significant value to the U.S. GDP and outpace other industries in creating better-paying jobs and contributing to the U.S. foreign sales and exports.
